Why these plans exist
In December 2024 TRAI changed its consumer protection rules to make operators offer at least one plan with only calls and SMS, for people paying for data they never use — feature phone users, elderly people, second SIMs. Jio, Airtel and Vi launched such plans in January 2025.
Who they suit
- A second SIM kept for bank OTPs or an old number.
- Feature phones and elderly parents who only call.
- People with Wi-Fi at home and work who need data only rarely (a small data add-on can be bought when needed).
Cost compared with data plans
| Operator | Calling-only plan (cheapest for 30 days) | Cheapest data plan for 30 days |
|---|---|---|
| Jio | ₹1,748 / 336 days ≈ ₹156 | ₹189 / 28 days ≈ ₹203 |
| Airtel | ₹1,849 / 365 days ≈ ₹152 | ₹2,249 / 365 days ≈ ₹185 |
| Vi | ₹1,849 / 365 days ≈ ₹152 | ₹2,249 / 365 days ≈ ₹185 |
Good to know
- These plans have no data at all; a WhatsApp message or a map lookup won't work until you add a data pack.
- SMS allowances are limited (often 900–3,600 for the validity); check the plan if you send many.
- Bank OTP SMS are incoming and don't use your SMS allowance.
Before you recharge
- Recharge only through the operator's app or website, a UPI app or your bank — never through a link in an SMS or WhatsApp message promising a "free recharge" or a huge discount. Those links steal UPI PINs and card details.
- Check the plan in your own circle: some plans and prices differ by state.
- "Unlimited" data has a daily limit: after your daily quota, speed usually drops to about 64 kbps until midnight.
- Unlimited 5G comes only on plans the operator names, and only where its 5G network reaches you and your phone supports it.
Oxon Fintech does not sell recharges or collect bill payments. Plan prices and benefits are the operators' own, as listed on the date above; they change often and can differ by telecom circle, so confirm in the operator's app before paying.
