Why check Experian too
Lenders report to every bureau, but many card issuers and fintech lenders pull Experian first. If Experian has a wrong entry that CIBIL doesn't, you may be turned down without knowing why. Checking it is free once a year, so there is no reason not to.
Experian Credit Information Company of India is licensed by the RBI, and its score also runs from 300 to 900.
Step by step
- Open experian.in yourself — type the address, don't follow a link from an SMS or a stranger.
- Look for the free annual credit report (the RBI asks every bureau to show it clearly).
- Enter your name, date of birth, PAN (or another ID the site asks for), mobile number and email.
- Confirm with the OTP sent to your mobile, and answer the identity questions if Experian shows them.
- Download the report as a PDF and keep it — note the date, so you know when your next free one is due.
Why your Experian and CIBIL scores differ
- Each bureau has its own formula, so the same history can score slightly differently.
- A lender may have reported to one bureau a few days before the other.
- An account may be missing or wrong in one report only — the most common reason for a big gap.
A difference of 10–30 points is normal. A difference of 80+ points is worth a closer look: compare the two reports account by account.
Fixing a mistake on Experian
Raise a dispute on experian.in under your report's dispute section. As with every bureau, the complaint must be settled within 30 days (21 for the lender, 9 for the bureau) or you are owed ₹100 a day for the delay. The steps are the same as in how to raise a CIBIL dispute.
Oxon Fintech is a loan facilitation platform, not a credit bureau. We do not check, sell, repair or change credit scores; get your report from the bureaus' own websites. Rules as checked on the date above.
