How to check a loan app or lender in 4 steps

  1. Find the lender's legal name in the app's loan agreement, Key Fact Statement or website (not just the app's brand name).
  2. Search that name here, or in RBI's NBFC list, and match the address and CIN.
  3. Look the app up in RBI's directory of Digital Lending Apps (rbi.org.in, Citizen's Corner), where banks and NBFCs list the apps they use.
  4. Never pay a fee before the loan, and never share an OTP. Report an unregistered lender on RBI's Sachet portal, and fraud on 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in.

What is an NBFC?

A non-banking financial company (NBFC) is a company that lends, invests or offers other financial services without being a bank. It must hold a Certificate of Registration (CoR) from RBI under section 45-IA of the RBI Act, 1934, before it can carry on that business. Unlike a bank, most NBFCs cannot take deposits from the public and cannot offer savings or current accounts.

Looking for a loan from a regulated lender?

Oxon Fintech matches you with offers from its lending partners, which are banks and RBI-registered NBFCs. Oxon is not the lender. The loan is paid by the lending partner into your own bank account, and Oxon never asks for your OTP, PIN, CVV or passwords.

  2. 8,502 NBFCs, as on 30 September 2026, besides the asset reconstruction companies.

  3. No. Only 23 NBFCs hold RBI's permission to accept public deposits. Deposits with an NBFC are not covered by the DICGC insurance that covers bank deposits.

  5. No. An app is a channel; the loan is given by a bank or NBFC behind it. Find the lender's name in the app, check it here, and look the app up in RBI's directory of Digital Lending Apps.
