How a step-up SIP works
A step-up (or top-up) SIP raises your monthly instalment by a fixed percentage — say 10% — once a year. Your SIP keeps pace with salary increases without a new form every year; most fund houses let you set the step-up when you register the SIP.
Example
₹10,000 a month for 10 years at an assumed 12% a year grows to about ₹23.2 lakh as a flat SIP. Raise it by 10% every year and it grows to about ₹33.7 lakh — you invest about ₹19.1 lakh instead of ₹12 lakh, and the instalment in the last year is about ₹23,600.
Keep in mind
- Returns are market-linked and not guaranteed; the calculator assumes the same return every month.
- Pick a step-up you can keep paying in a lean year, such as 5–10%.
- See best SIP plans for how to choose the fund category.
