There is no separate SBI score
State Bank of India checks your credit report with the credit bureaus, like any bank or NBFC does. The score SBI sees is your bureau score — the same one you can get free from CIBIL or the other bureaus. SBI may pull more than one bureau.
What score does SBI need?
SBI does not publish one fixed cut-off for all borrowers, and its policy can differ by loan type and by applicant. In general, banks in India treat scores of about 750 and above as good. A lower score does not automatically mean a no, and a high score is not a guarantee. Check SBI's own website or branch for the current criteria — this page doesn't speak for SBI.
What else a bank checks
- Recent repayments: late payments in the last 12 months weigh more than old ones.
- Account status: loans marked settled or written off are a red flag for most lenders.
- Existing EMIs against income (FOIR): how much room you have for a new EMI — try our loan eligibility calculator.
- Recent enquiries: many applications in a short time suggest you are hungry for credit.
- Job and income stability, and for business loans, your business vintage and banking.
Before you apply to SBI or any bank
- Get your free reports and fix any error first.
- Pay every EMI and card bill on time for a few months.
- Bring card use below about 30% of the limit.
- Don't apply at several banks in the same week.
- Work out the EMI you can afford with the EMI calculator.
