Recharging your FASTag
FASTag is a prepaid tag linked to a wallet with the bank that issued it. To top up:
- The issuing bank's app, website or FASTag portal.
- Any UPI app → FASTag → choose your issuer → enter vehicle number (through Bharat Connect).
- Auto-recharge from your bank account, if your issuer offers it.
Keep a little extra before trips: many issuers need a minimum balance, and a tag without balance at a plaza means paying more.
Rules that trip people up
- One vehicle, one FASTag (since 1 April 2024): only the latest tag on a vehicle works; older ones are deactivated.
- KYC must be complete: incomplete KYC can get a tag blocklisted. Update it on your issuer's portal.
- Tag damaged or not read? Get it replaced by the issuer; don't paste it loosely on the windscreen.
- Wrong or double deduction: raise it with your issuer with the plaza name, date and transaction ID.
The FASTag Annual Pass
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| Price | ₹3,075 for 2026-27 (₹3,000 when launched on 15 August 2025; revised every year) |
| Covers | 200 toll crossings or one year, whichever comes first |
| Where | Only at fee plazas on national highways and national expressways run by NHAI and the ministry |
| Not valid | State highways, state-run toll roads, city and private toll roads (normal FASTag deduction applies there) |
| Vehicles | Private, non-commercial cars, jeeps and vans with a valid FASTag |
| Buy | On the Rajmargyatra app or NHAI's website; it activates on your existing FASTag |
Does the pass pay off?
At ₹3,075 for 200 crossings, each crossing costs about ₹15.40. If the national-highway plazas you cross usually charge ₹50–₹100 for a car, the pass pays for itself after roughly 30–60 crossings in the year. Rarely on highways? Your FASTag wallet is cheaper.
Pay safely
- Pay through the biller's own app or website, your bank, or a UPI app — look for the Bharat Connect mark.
- Never pay through a link in an SMS or WhatsApp message, and never call a number from a message threatening disconnection. Billers don't ask you to install screen-sharing apps.
- Keep the transaction reference ID; it is what you quote in a complaint.
- You never need your UPI PIN to receive money; anyone who asks for it is a fraudster.
Oxon Fintech does not sell recharges or collect bill payments. Plan prices and benefits are the operators' own, as listed on the date above; they change often and can differ by telecom circle, so confirm in the operator's app before paying.
