Not every business needs GST registration. Many small traders and service providers are below the turnover threshold — see who needs GST registration. Some lenders consider such businesses; others require GST.
What lenders may accept instead
- Bank statements showing regular business inflows — usually 6 to 12 months
- ITR with business income
- Udyam registration — free, and proof the business exists; see Udyam registration
- Shop and establishment licence or trade licence
- Business address proof and the owner's KYC
What helps
- Take payments by UPI, cards and bank transfer into one account.
- File ITR every year, even if income is small.
- Keep cash deposits regular instead of irregular lump sums.
- Keep your personal credit score healthy — for a proprietorship it's the main score lenders see.
When GST registration becomes worth it
If your turnover is close to the threshold, you sell across states, or you sell on marketplaces, you may need GST anyway — and regular GST returns are one of the strongest proofs of turnover, opening more loan options.
